GUIDANCE NOTES FOR THOSE CONSIDERING RACING
The following is intended to offer guidance to those wishing to take part in Ski Racing.
1. For Racing purposes from the age of eleven (qualifying date is the 1st January) you are no longer classified as a Bairn but as a Child and you become eligible to race in the Children 1 age category and after two years you graduate to the Children 2 category and after a further two years you then join the ranks of the Juniors.
2. In order to compete in Snowsport Scotland registered events in Alpine (as well as Snowboard, Freestyle, Grass, Nordic and Speed disciplines) all competitors must be registered with Snowsport Scotland.
When registering please tick all the disciplines that you wish to register for. When a competitor is registered as an Alpine Competitor a BASS number will be issued.
All registered competitors must be a current member of a club affiliated to Snowsport Scotland i.e Cairngorm Ski Club.
*Any alpine racer who is in Children 1 or above who wishes to enter BASS seeded races.
*Any child in the Bairn category who wishes to gain a BASS number - required for BARSC races and Xscape races. Registration for Bairns is not required to enter Scottish races.
*Any competitor in any discipline who wishes to apply to Snowsport GB for a FIS licence.
3. You must apply to Snowsport Scotland for your BASS Licence. The licence must be renewed annually. If you apply for your Licence before 26th October 2010 the cost is £35. If you apply after said date the cost rises to £45. Cairngorm Ski Club will reimburse all those applying for a Licence on condition that the Licence holder enters a minimum number of three seeded races. You will only be reimbursed up to £35.
4. Throughout the winter season, conditions permitting, there are scheduled seeded races held at The Lecht (The North East Childrens Champs), Glenshee (John Clark/East of Scotland Champs) Cairngorm (CSC Open Champs), and Cairngorm (Scottish Childrens Champs). In addition to these there are seeded races held in Europe throughout the season (see details on www.britski.org) of which the British Childrens Champs in Meribel and the Scottish Childrens Races in Courchevel, both held during the Easter Holidays are perhaps the most important.
5. To enter any/all of these races simply go to www.snowsportscotland.org download the entry form and tick all those races you wish to enter. The cost of entering is usually between £30.00 and £40.00 per race. Please note that it is most helpful to all concerned, not least the individual organisers, if you submit your entry forms at the start of the season. You will not be liable for the entry fee if the race is cancelled.
6. When first starting out you will have no seed points. As you race you will hopefully accumulate points. In short the better you do the more seed points you earn. The bigger the event (likely to attract the stronger/est entry fields) the more seed points you earn. The better your seed points the more favourable starting position you get. Please note that whilst most races do not require you to have a minimum number of seed points to enter, the British Childrens Champs do.
7. CSC Coaches will be in attendance at all Scottish based races.
8. Wearing a catsuit is not obligatory, but most of the racers wear one. Wearing a helmet is obligatory.
9. Please note that there are guidlines laid down governing skis and in particular to such technical details as turning radius, height of riser plates and length of skis. For more details on this you should consult either myself or the Head Coach.
10. Should you have any other queies then please do not hesitate to contact me coaching@cairngormskiclub.co.uk
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU WILL BE REIMBURSED AT THE END OF THE SEASON!!
